Richard Bowditch - Bellfounder

Richard melts his boot

The foundry is at Dulcote, near Wells, Somerset. Richard rings at Pilton and is an ardent supporter of small bells.
The bells are cast in bell metal with some very early bells having been cast in gunmetal.
He uses sand moulds made from patterns supplied by Matthew Higby, the patterns have recently been
extended with the addition of some larger examples in china made by Graham Newing of Westbury.
In the last few years he has cast over 200 bells, including a medieval full size copy.
He is an excellent craftsman - the picture shows some cast iron clock faces,
each weighing over a hundredweight, they really are superb.
